Clinical characteristics of tuberculosis in immigrants and autochthonous populations, in 2 hospitals of Catalonia.

Background And Objectives: Tuberculosis is a difficult-to-control endemic, and its incidence rate in Spain is greater than that of neighboring countries. In recent years, this has been due to an increased number of foreigners infected with the disease. The aim of this study was to compare the characteristics of this disease between immigrant and native populations in the last decade.

Qualitative and quantitative accuracy of ultrasound-based virtual histology for detection of necrotic core in human coronary arteries.

The aim was to test the accuracy of virtual histology (VH) for detecting necrotic core (NC) in an ex vivo human model of coronary arteries as compared to real histology (RH). A total of nine consecutive explanted hearts were included in the study. Coronary segments, clearly identified by anatomical landmarks, were analyzed by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS-VH) immediately after heart collection and thereafter by RH.

Experimental reactivation of equine herpesvirus-3 following corticosteroid treatment.

State of latency, well known for several herpesviruses, has been proposed for equine herpesvirus-3 (EHV-3) and supported by epidemiological observations. No detailed assessment about reactivation, patterns of excretion and reexcretion has been formally reported. An experimental reactivation study by corticosteroid treatment in previously naturally infected horses was therefore carried out.

Characterization of two-phase flow regimes in horizontal tubes using 81mKr tracer experiments.

The diagnosis of heat exchangers on duty with respect to flow mal-distributions needs the development of non-intrusive inlet-outlet experimental techniques in order to perform an online fault diagnosis. Tracer experiments are an example of such techniques. They can be applied to mono-phase heat exchangers but also to multi-phase ones.
