DNA methylation is associated with hair trace elements in female adolescents from two vulnerable populations in the Colombian Caribbean.

Exposure to trace elements (TEs) influences DNA methylation patterns, which may be associated with disease development. Vulnerable populations, such as adolescents undergoing maturity, are susceptible to the effects of TE exposure. The aim of this study was to analyze the association of hair TE concentration with DNA methylation in a sample from female adolescents living in two communities in the Colombian Caribbean coast.

Aromatic plants as cosmeceuticals: benefits and applications for skin health.

This review highlights the potential of aromatic plants as natural antioxidants in cosmeceuticals to combat skin aging and promote health and rejuvenation. Aromatic plant extracts, essential oils, or their phytoconstituents have a long history of use in skincare, dating back centuries. Currently, these plant-based sources are extensively researched and utilized in the cosmeceutical industry to formulate products that enhance skin health and promote a youthful appearance.

Essential oil components interacting with insect odorant-binding proteins: a molecular modelling approach.

Essential oils (EOs) are natural products currently used to control arthropods, and their interaction with insect odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) is fundamental for the discovery of new repellents. This in silico study aimed to predict the potential of EO components to interact with odorant proteins. A total of 684 EO components from PubChem were docked against 23 odorant binding proteins from Protein Data Bank using AutoDock Vina.

Bioprospecting of extremophilic perchlorate-reducing bacteria: report of promising Bacillus spp. isolated from sediments of the bay of Cartagena, Colombia.

Three extremophile bacterial strains (BBCOL-009, BBCOL-014 and BBCOL-015), capable of degrading high concentrations of perchlorate at a range of pH (6.5 to 10.0), were isolated from Colombian Caribbean Coast sediments.
