Purpose: The relative ellipsoid zone reflectivity (rEZR) is an innovative biomarker for photoreceptor alterations and showed association with disease staging in macular telangiectasia type 2 (MacTel). However, its prognostic relevance for the ellipsoid zone (EZ) loss is unclear.

Methods: Longitudinal spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) imaging of patients with MacTel from an observational natural history study was used for en face determination of manifest EZ loss.

Background: The Pierde Peso, Gana Vida (Lose Weight, Gain Life) strategy is granted to patients with overweight or obesity, it started in 2022 with the purpose of ordering, integrating and making efficient actions in the care of overweight and obesity, however, its effectiveness is unknown.

Objective: To analyze the changes in the following parameters: body weight, waist circumference, glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides in patients who received the strategy in the 35 IMSS state offices during the two semesters of 2022.

Material And Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted including 76,760 patients incorporated into the strategy in the two semesters of 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • * Surplus bread crusts can effectively act as a structure for SSF, and when combined with perennial ryegrass, they enhance each other’s nutritional profiles.
  • * The study using Rhizopus oligosporus showed significant reductions in starch and increases in amino acids, suggesting that this method can turn underutilized bread crusts and ryegrass into valuable sources of alternative protein.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates whether cardiac resynchronization therapy with a defibrillator (CRTD) is better than therapy with a pacemaker (CRTP) for patients with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM) and low risk of arrhythmias.
  • It analyzes data from 167 NICM patients, looking for predictors of heart function improvement (echocardiographic response) and serious heart rhythm issues (arrhythmias) over a median follow-up of 63 months.
  • Findings reveal that patients without late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) show a much higher response rate to CRT (81% vs. 53%) and no arrhythmic events, suggesting they are ideal candidates for CRTP rather than

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the genetic factors linked to severe COVID-19, specifically focusing on hospitalized cases in admixed Americans.
  • Researchers conducted the largest genome-wide association study (GWAS) for COVID-19 hospitalization in this population, identifying four significant genetic associations, including two novel loci found in Latin Americans.
  • The findings highlight the importance of including diverse populations in genomic research, aiming to improve understanding of genetic risks associated with COVID-19 across different ethnic groups.
