Implementation of a Clinical Decision Support Tool to Improve Cardiac Rehabilitation Referral.

Purpose: Inadequate referral to cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a major barrier to CR participation. We investigated the implementation of a clinical decision support (CDS) tool on improving CR referral for patients hospitalized with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) at an academic medical center.

Methods: We developed a CDS tool that identified patients admitted with AMI and reminded physicians to refer patients to CR.

COVID-19 highlights the need to improve resilience and equity in managing small-scale fisheries.

The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the fragility of global and domestic seafood markets. We examined the main impacts and responses of the small-scale fisheries (SSF) sector, and found that mitigation and preparedness strategies should be prioritised to boost resilience in SSF. We provide five policy options and considerations: (1) improving access to insurance and financial services; (2) strengthening local and regional markets and supporting infrastructure; (3) recognising fisheries as an essential service; (4) integrating disaster risk management into fisheries management systems; and (5) investing in Indigenous and locally-led fisheries management.

Emerging Educational and Networking Platforms in Interventional Cardiology: Expanding Beyond Traditional Social Media.

With ubiquitous use of smartphones and other Internet-enabled devices, clinicians have access to a plethora of multimedia platforms that enable them to network, share educational content, and learn. Several platforms also enable resources that support clinical decision making. Traditional social media has been used extensively by cardiologists for several years and now extends to the entire care team including trainees, advanced practitioners, nurses and technologists.

Sex Differences in Patient-Reported Outcomes and Perception of Ascites Burden Among Outpatients With Decompensated Cirrhosis and Ascites.

Introduction: Perception of the ascites burden and its effects on quality of life may be different between sexes. This study assessed sex differences in perception of ascites burden and its impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with recurrent or refractory ascites.

Methods: The North American Consortium for the Study of End-stage Liver Disease prospectively enrolled outpatients with cirrhosis and large ascites requiring repeat large volume paracenteses.
