Clear visualization during transnasal endoscopic surgery (TNES) is crucial for safe, efficient surgery. The endoscopic surgical field clarity index (ESFCI) is an artificial intelligence-enabled measure of surgical field quality. The ESFCI allows researchers to evaluate interventions to improve visualization during TNES.

The purpose of this study is to identify predictors of disparities in patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) before and after arthroscopic meniscectomy. Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) was used in this study. All patients who underwent single-knee arthroscopic meniscectomy from January 2012 to March 2018 performed by a single surgeon at an academic safety-net hospital were identified.

Acute soft tissue trauma to the head and neck is a common reason for emergency department presentation and should be appropriately evaluated by a facial plastic surgeon. The evaluation of a patient who has suffered facial trauma should always include a comprehensive facial nerve exam and carry a low threshold of suspicion for parotid duct injury when involving the cheek. Injuries to the facial nerve and parotid duct can result in significant long-term functional, cosmetic, and emotional morbidity, particularly when diagnosis is delayed.

Hydrogels serve as three-dimensional scaffolds whose composition can be customized to allow attachment and proliferation of several different cell types. Extracellular matrix-derived hydrogels are considered close replicates of the tissue microenvironment. They can serve as scaffolds for tissue engineering and are a useful tool to study cell-scaffold interaction.

The lack of a fully developed human cardiac model in vitro hampers the progress of many biomedical research fields including pharmacology, developmental biology, and disease modeling. Currently, available methods may only differentiate human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into immature cardiomyocytes. To achieve cardiomyocyte maturation, appropriate modulation of cellular microenvironment is needed.
