We study a natural variant of scheduling that we call : in this variant an instance of a scheduling problem along with an integer  is given and one seeks an optimal schedule where not all, but only jobs, have to be processed. Specifically, we aim to determine the fine-grained parameterized complexity of partial scheduling problems parameterized by for all variants of scheduling problems that minimize the makespan and involve unit/arbitrary processing times, identical/unrelated parallel machines, release/due dates, and precedence constraints. That is, we investigate whether algorithms with runtimes of the type or exist for a function that is as small as possible.

In this paper, we develop new tools and connections for . In this setting, we are given a problem instance and an integer , and the goal is to design an approximation algorithm with the fastest possible running time. We give randomized algorithms that establish an approximation ratio of for maximum independent set in time, for chromatic number in time, for minimum vertex cover in time, and for minimum -hypergraph vertex cover in time.

Five-Factor Model (FFM) personality traits are related to a wide range of clinical outcome in patients with psychotic disorders. However, it is not sufficiently clear whether psychotic illness, particularly fluctuation in negative symptoms and psychotic relapse, affects personality. The current study examined the 3-year temporal stability of FFM traits in 91 patients with non-affective psychotic disorders with a maximum duration of illness of 10 years and 32 control subjects without a (family member with) a diagnosis of psychotic illness.

Monoclonal antibodies were elicited against the small hydrophobic hapten traseolide, a commercially available musk fragrance. Antibody variable region sequences were found to belong to different sequence groups, and the binding characteristics of the corresponding antibody fragments were investigated. The antibodies M02/01/01 and M02/05/01 are highly homologous and differ in the binding pocket only at position H93.

Glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) immunoelectron microscopy in combination with anterograde degeneration was applied in rats to study the synaptic targets of olfactory bulb afferents to the lateral subdivision (LEA) of the entorhinal area (EA). Immunoreactive neurons and terminals are scattered throughout all layers of LEA. After olfactory bulb resection, terminal degeneration occurs in layer Ia of EA.
