Myocardial remodelling involves structural and functional changes in the heart, potentially leading to heart failure. The deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)/salt model is a widely used experimental approach to study hypertension-induced cardiac remodelling. It allows to investigate the mechanisms underlying myocardial fibrosis and hypertrophy, which are key contributors to impaired cardiac function.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to design a method of myocardial T1 quantification in small laboratory animals and to investigate the effects of spatiotemporal regularization and the needed acquisition duration.

Methods: We propose a compressed-sensing approach to T1 quantification based on self-gated inversion-recovery radial two/three-dimensional (2D/3D) golden-angle stack-of-stars acquisition with image reconstruction performed using total-variation spatiotemporal regularization. The method was tested on a phantom and on a healthy rat, as well as on rats in a small myocardium-remodeling study.

Gastropathy is one of the most common diseases of the human gastrointestinal tract. Apart from its consequences in the stomach, it is also manifested in other parts of the digestive tract, particularly in the duodenum. The aim of this pilot study was to verify on animal model the empirically observed alleviation of gastropathy symptoms in patients who underwent a drinking treatment of Vincentka natural mineral water during their spa treatment.

The analysis of triglyceride species by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a flame ionization detector (FID) and reversed-phase chromatography using chemically bonded octadecyl silane (ODS) Zorbax columns and gradient or isocratic solvent elution with methylene chloride/acetonitrile is described. Triglycerides containing acyl groups of critical pairs,trans and positional isomers, as well as mixtures of even and odd chain lengths are separated. Identification of triglycerides is made on the basis of retention times compared with equivalent and theoretical carbon numbers, and comparison with chromatograms of reference triglyceride mixtures.
