The previous treatment options for neurotrophic keratopathy (NK) were limited. Frequently performed surgical procedures for severe NK include amnionic membrane transplantation and tarsorrhaphy. Corneal neurotization describes the transposition of a healthy donor nerve along the limbal circumference to re-establish corneal sensation and trophic function.

Electroretinographic Assessment of Inner Retinal Signaling in the Isolated and Superfused Murine Retina.

Purpose: Longer-lasting electroretinographic recordings of the isolated murine retina were initially achieved by modification of a phosphate-buffered nutrient solution originally developed for the bovine retina. During experiments with a more sensitive mouse retina, apparent model-specific limitations were addressed and improvements were analyzed for their contribution to an optimized full electroretinogram (ERG).

Material And Methods: Retinas were isolated from dark-adapted mice, transferred to a recording chamber and superfused with different solutions.

Microfabrication and integration of a sol-gel PZT folded spring energy harvester.

This paper presents the methodology and challenges experienced in the microfabrication, packaging, and integration of a fixed-fixed folded spring piezoelectric energy harvester. A variety of challenges were overcome in the fabrication of the energy harvesters, such as the diagnosis and rectification of sol-gel PZT film quality and adhesion issues. A packaging and integration methodology was developed to allow for the characterizing the harvesters under a base vibration.

Differential expression of vascular endothelial growth factor-a isoforms in neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Purpose: To investigate the role of vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) isoforms in neovascular age-related macular degeneration.

Methods: Choroidal neovascular membranes (CNV) were excised in 24 patients, 8 of them underwent previous photodynamic therapy. All procedures were performed before anti-VEGF therapies were implemented in Germany.
