The vascular endothelium is vital for cardio-pulmonary homeostasis and, thus, plays a crucial role in preventing life-threatening lung diseases. The transcription factor GATA2 is essential for hematopoiesis and maintaining vascular integrity. Heterozygous mutations in GATA2 can lead to a primary immunodeficiency syndrome with pulmonary manifestations.

Purinergic receptor P2X7 regulates interleukin-1α mediated inflammation in chronic kidney disease in a reactive oxygen species-dependent manner.

Onset, progression and cardiovascular outcome of chronic kidney disease (CKD) are influenced by the concomitant sterile inflammation. The pro-inflammatory cytokine family interleukin (IL)-1 is crucial in CKD with the key alarmin IL-1α playing an additional role as an adhesion molecule that facilitates immune cell tissue infiltration and consequently inflammation. Here, we investigate calcium ion and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-dependent regulation of different aspects of IL-1α-mediated inflammation.

The UPFRONT project: tailored implementation and evaluation of a patient decision aid to support shared decision-making about management of symptomatic uterine fibroids.

Objective: To evaluate implementation of a patient decision aid for symptomatic uterine fibroid management to improve shared decision-making at five clinical settings across the United States.

Methods: We used a type 3 hybrid effectiveness-implementation stepped-wedge design and the Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance (RE-AIM) planning and evaluation framework. We conducted clinician training, monthly reach tracking with feedback to site clinical leads, patient and clinician surveys, and visit audio-recordings.
