Guanine-quadruplex (G4) selective photosensitizers have huge potential for photodynamic therapy against various diseases correlated with G4 DNA and G4 RNAs; however, the types of photosensitizer skeletons available are limited. Herein, we investigated the ability of our original G4 ligands, tripodal quinone-cyanine dyes (tpQCy(s)), which were developed as fluorescent probes for G4, to act as photosensitizers for cancer-selective apoptosis inducers. The results indicated that the tpQCy skeleton has great potential for developing G4-targeted cancer-selective photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy.

To visualize the guanine-quadruplex (G4) nucleic acids in cells or in biological tissues, near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent probes that can respond specifically to G4 nucleic acids are required. Herein, an NIR fluorescence switch-on probe for G4 imaging having higher selectivity and extremely large Stokes shift (ca. 220 nm) was successfully developed by the modification of our original tripodal quinone-cyanine fluorescent dye.

We report on experimental observations of charge-spin cooperative dynamics of two-electron states in a GaAs double quantum dot located in a nonequilibrium phonon environment. When the phonon energy exceeds the lowest excitation energy in the quantum dot, the spin-flip rate of a single electron strongly enhances. In addition, originated from the spatial gradient of phonon density between the dots, the parallel spin states become more probable than the antiparallel ones.
