Angiotensin 1-7 (Ang 1-7), a component of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), exhibits anti-inflammatory effects in obesity and related disorders, though its mechanisms remain unclear. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of cholic acid (CA) treatment over 74 weeks in Japanese patients with inherited enzymatic bile acid synthesis disorders (BASD).

Methods: This phase 3, open-label, single-arm study enrolled four Japanese patients diagnosed with BASD, including two with 3β-hydroxy- -C-steroid dehydrogenase/isomerase (HSD3B7) deficiency and two with -3-oxosteroid 5β-reductase (SRD5B1) deficiency. The patients had received chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) treatment but were switched to CA treatment.

Unlabelled: The ability to biodegrade polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and the catabolic enzymes responsible for PAH biotransformation in marine bacteria belonging to the family remain largely unexplored despite their wide distribution and highly diverse physiological traits. A bacterial isolate within originating from coastal seawater, sp. strain MA-2, that biotransformed phenanthrene and utilized it as a growth substrate was found to possess a putative PAH-degrading gene cluster on one of the eight circular plasmids in its genome.

Background The growing emphasis on improving patient safety over the past two decades has received more focus in the undergraduate curricula, and the appropriate assessment of patient safety competencies at graduation is crucial in competency-based medical education. However, there is no valid method for assessing patient safety competencies because current assessment methods in medical education focus less on behavior. Cockayne syndrome (CS) is a progressive multisystem disorder characterized by growth failure, microcephaly, developmental delay, and photosensitivity. The characteristic symptoms appear during early childhood in most patients with CS. Herein, we report a mild case of CS with a novel start-loss variant in ERCC8 that did not show the characteristic symptoms of CS during early childhood and exhibited sudden growth failure after the age of 10 years.
