Effects of a multifaceted intervention in psychogeriatric patients: one-year prospective study.

Objectives: The aetiology of behavioural and psychological symptoms (BPSD) could be related to inadequate treatment in patients with dementia. The aim of this study was to determine how a multifaceted intervention based on a medication review and multidisciplinary follow-up could improve treatment and minimise risk in these patients.

Methods: A prospective interventional study was undertaken between July 2015 and July 2016 of patients with dementia admitted to control BPSD.

Older people usually present with adverse drug events (ADEs) with nonspecific symptoms such as cognitive decline, recurrent falls, reduced mobility, and/or major deterioration. The aims of this study were to assess the ADEs of patients with dementia and presenting neuropsychiatric/behavioral, and psychological symptoms in dementia (BPSD) and to categorize and identify the principal factors that allow to prevent ADEs, and separately ADEs that result in falls. To that end, a one-year prospective study in a psychogeriatric ward (July 2015 to July 2016) was performed.

Facial reanimation surgery with micro-vascular gracilis free flap for unilateral facial palsy.

Introduction And Objectives: Micro-neurovascular free muscle flap transfer is currently the procedure of choice for long-standing facial paralysis. We present a case series of patients treated with gracilis muscle free flap with motor innervation by the masseteric nerve. We discuss the surgical technique and quantify the movement granted by the muscle, the improvement in quality of life and aesthetic results.

[Results in the surgical treatment of giant acoustic neuromas].

Introduction And Objectives: To compare the results obtained in the resection of 21 giant vestibular schwannomas via retrosigmoid (RS) and combined retrosigmoid/translabyrinthine (RS/TL) approaches with respect to intra- and postoperative complications, facial nerve preservation and postsurgical sequelae.

Methods: This was a retrospective study of 21 patients who underwent a resection of a giant vestibular neuroma according to the Tos & Thomsen Scale (greater than or equal to 4 centimetres) in a tertiary care centre in the period between 2000 and 2008. We present the most significant characteristics of the series studied and the analysis of the advantages and inconveniences of each approach.
