Visinity: Visual Spatial Neighborhood Analysis for Multiplexed Tissue Imaging Data.

New highly-multiplexed imaging technologies have enabled the study of tissues in unprecedented detail. These methods are increasingly being applied to understand how cancer cells and immune response change during tumor development, progression, and metastasis, as well as following treatment. Yet, existing analysis approaches focus on investigating small tissue samples on a per-cell basis, not taking into account the spatial proximity of cells, which indicates cell-cell interaction and specific biological processes in the larger cancer microenvironment.

MCL-1 interacts with MOF and BID to regulate H4K16 acetylation and homologous recombination repair.

The Participation of myeloid cell leukemia-1 (MCL-1), an antiapoptotic protein, in DNA repair and homologous recombination (HR) is not well understood. This study tests whether MCL-1 interacts with Males absent On First (MOF) to regulate H4K16 acetylation that promotes HR repair in response to replication stress induced by Hydroxyurea (HU) treatment. Co-immunoprecipitation of FLAG-MCL-1 from cancer cells treated with HU pulls down a complex of MCL-1, MOF and BH3-interacting domain death agonist (BID).

Patient attendance at molecular tumor board: A new means of shared decision making?

Patient engagement in medical decision-making improves patient related outcomes through compliance and patient satisfaction. The Inova Schar Cancer Institute has a weekly molecular tumor board (MTB) to match comprehensive genomic sequencing results with targeted therapies for patients. Primary oncologists extended MTB invitations to their patients.

A novel intervention: Implementation of a neutropenic infection-prevention bundle and audit tool in an oncology unit.

Infectious complications are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. Specific infection control practices targeting this patient population are widely endorsed, but little guidance exists on how to implement and monitor compliance with these practices. At our institution, we increased compliance with infection control measures by using a bundled neutropenic precaution (NP) audit and feedback tool.
