Public health branch incident management and support as part of the Federal Government response during the emergency phase of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

On September 6 and 20, 2017, Hurricanes Irma and Maria made landfall as major hurricanes in the US Caribbean Territories of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico with devastating effects. As part of the initial response, a public health team (PHT) was initially deployed as part of the US Department of Health and Human Services Incident Response Coordination Team. As a result of increased demands for additional expertise and resources, a public health branch (PHB) was established for coordinating a broad spectrum of public health response activities in support of the affected territories.

Unprovoked piriformis myositis presenting in a pregnant patient.

A patient in her mid-30s presented to hospital at 25 weeks' gestation with acute onset of leg pain.Routine investigations were performed to rule out the common causes of leg and back pain in pregnancy, which were grossly normal. Piriformis pyomyositis was diagnosed on MRI and a collection was drained.

Disentangling glial diversity in peripheral nerves at single-nuclei resolution.

The peripheral nerve contains diverse cell types that support its proper function and maintenance. In this study, we analyzed multiple peripheral nerves using single-nuclei RNA sequencing, which allowed us to circumvent difficulties encountered in analyzing cells with complex morphologies via conventional single-cell methods. The resultant mouse peripheral nerve cell atlas highlights a diversity of cell types, including multiple subtypes of Schwann cells (SCs), immune cells and stromal cells.

Fetal Deaths in Ireland Due to SARS-CoV-2 Placentitis Caused by SARS-CoV-2 Alpha.

Context.—: A severe third wave of COVID-19 disease affected Ireland in the first 3 months of 2021. In this wave, 1 second-trimester miscarriage and 6 stillbirths were observed in the Irish population because of placental insufficiency as a result of SARS-CoV-2 placentitis.

Struma Ovarii: A Thyroxine-Producing Ovarian Tumor in Pregnancy.

Struma ovarii is a rare dermoid tumor that consists of more than 50% thyroid tissue. The incidence of struma ovarii is reported to be 1% of all ovarian tumors and 2-5% of all ovarian teratomas. The authors present a case of struma ovarii diagnosed during the first trimester of pregnancy in a primigravida patient and discuss the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management options for such rare tumors, both in and outside of pregnancy.
