Among the most consumed foods in the world is potato, which occupies the first place as a non-grain commodity, demonstrating the importance of its assessment concerning the population's food safety. In this study, the nutrients Ca, Mg, K, P, Cu, Mn, Fe, and Zn and the potentially toxic trace elements Cd, Cr, and Pb were evaluated considering their total contents, bioaccessible and bioavailable fractions in different potato cultivars, in an unpublished approach in the literature. The in vitro standard gastrointestinal digestion method (INFOGEST) and a model of the intestinal epithelial barrier using the Caco-2 cell line were applied for investigate the presence of metals in potato.

Of all cyanobacteria, Microcystis aeruginosa is the most commonly found species in bloom episodes all over the world. This species is known to produce cyanopeptides with hepatotoxic effects, namely microcystins (MCs). In this regard, Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) have been widely studied for cyanotoxin degradation, but very few studies focused on cyanobacteria inactivation combined with toxin removal.

Article Synopsis
  • * The research evaluated various factors such as concentrations of reactants, the presence of other substances, and the process's ecotoxicity effects before and after treatment, finding that radical scavengers in the medium affected degradation rates.
  • * Results showed significant reductions in chemical oxygen demand (75%) and microcystin-LR (70%) in treated samples, with no increase in ecotoxicity noted, highlighting the solar photo-Fenton method's potential for cleaning contaminated water and the
