Applying the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons quality outcomes metrics to a regional Australian oncology and reconstructive service: benchmarking the data to audit clinical outcomes in emerging, regional, and small-volume centres.

The traditional model of centralisation of care, whilst having many advantages, also requires adaptation and upscaling to meet the requirements of both regional areas and the increasing urban sprawl. However, to ensure comparable outcomes with current major centres, this transition, when required, must be delivered in a safe and effective manner. Our project, which utilised the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (BAOMS) recently published outcome data from the Quality and Outcomes in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (QOMS) project to benchmark data prospectively collected from a small-volume, emerging centre in Northern Queensland, was the first of its kind in terms of validation studies.

Dentistry for patients with haemophilia: Trialling a safe and economical change in management.

Introduction: While the dental management of patients with haemophilia has changed considerably in the last decade, haemophiliacs in Western Australia have continued to receive pre-operative factor support for dentistry regardless of the type of dental procedure.

Aim: To review the efficacy and safety of established dental protocols that reduce factor use in the dental management of patients with haemophilia and to estimate cost savings.

Methods: Records of 11 patients with haemophilia that were seen in the pilot programme period were reviewed.

Distribution of Australian dental practices in relation to the ageing population.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyse and map the distribution of the ageing population, by sociodemographic profiling, in private and public dental practices in Australia.

Background: The rapid increase in the aged population in Australia requires a comprehensive approach to ensure accessibility to geriatric dental services. However, the availability of dental services for the older people requires further investigation of the demographic distribution of need.

Antibiotic Prescribing Patterns Among Dental Professionals In Massachusetts.

The purposes of this study were to investigate prescribing patterns of antibiotics for the management of common pediatric oral infections, and to and identify the independent predictors of antibiotic preference across different groups of dental practitioners in Massachusetts, USA. A cross-sectional survey assessed antibiotic prescribing practices of general dentists, pediatric dentists, endodontists, and oral surgeons based on a series of clinical scenarios where antibiotic coverage may be warranted. The appropriate therapeutic management of patients with facial cellulitis occurred across all clinical groups.
