The oral drug obeldesivir protects nonhuman primates against lethal Ebola virus infection.

Obeldesivir (ODV; GS-5245) is an orally administered ester prodrug of the parent nucleoside GS-441524 that has broad spectrum antiviral activity inhibiting viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerases. We recently showed that ODV completely protects cynomolgus macaques against lethal infection with Sudan virus when given 24 hours after parenteral exposure. Here, we report that once daily oral ODV treatment of cynomolgus and rhesus macaques for 10 days confers 80 and 100% protection, respectively, against lethal Ebola virus infection when treatment is initiated 24 hours after mucosal (conjunctival) exposure.

Introduction to Focus Issue: Data-driven models and analysis of complex systems.

This Focus Issue highlights recent advances in the study of complex systems, with a particular emphasis on data-driven research. Our editorial explores a diverse array of topics, including financial markets, electricity pricing, power grids, lasers, the Earth's climate, hydrology, neuronal assemblies and the brain, biomedicine, complex networks, real-world hypergraphs, animal behavior, and social media. This diversity underscores the broad applicability of complex systems research.

Transforming urban waste collection inventory: AI-Based container classification and Re-Identification.

This work lays the groundwork for creating an automated system for the inventory of urban waste elements. Our primary contribution is the development of, to the best of our knowledge, the first re-identification system for urban waste elements that uses Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision, incorporating information from a classification module and geolocation context to enhance post-processing performance. This re-identification system helps to create and update inventories by determining if a new image matches an existing element in the inventory based on visual similarity or, if not, by adding it as a new identity (new class or new identity of an existing class).

Internal Validity and Reliability of the GAD-7 Test in Latin America.

Generalized anxiety has significantly increased in the general population during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the need for rapid screening tools. In this context, the present study analyzed the psychometric properties and internal consistency of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) in healthcare workers and the general population in Latin America. A cross-sectional e-health study was conducted, surveying 11,279 Latin Americans online using snowball sampling.
