Skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding after caesarean section: A systematic review and meta-analysis of intervention studies.

Background: Breastfeeding has been widely studied as a factor that improves maternal and newborn health outcomes. Immediate or early skin-to-skin contact interventions have been proposed in health care services to increase breastfeeding or exclusive breastfeeding rates following caesarean births although the findings are inconclusive.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to synthesize the available evidence on early or immediate skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding in women and newborns following caesarean birth.

Fully Endoscopic One-Anastomosis Gastric Bypass in Adult Obese Minipigs: a Sham-Controlled Assessment of Two Bypass Limb Lengths.

Background: We assessed the feasibility and safety of a fully endoscopic one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) procedure in obese adult minipigs, with short bypass limb length if feasible or full length in a sham-controlled study.

Methods: A natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) OAGB procedure was performed in 4 obese adult Yucatan minipigs. Weight change was compared to 2 sham-controlled animals.

Background: Nurse practitioners (NPs) are essential to meeting the demand for primary care and improving quality. Variation in primary care work environment has implications for outcomes. One opportunity to better support NP practice includes increasing NP access to support staff.

ANCA-negative granulomatosis with polyangiitis-like intraocular and cutaneous vasculitis secondary to myelodysplastic syndrome.

An elderly woman presented with subacute, bilateral, severe vision loss and pronounced panuveitis. She also noted a skin lesion on her ankle, and biopsy of the lesion revealed necrotising vasculitis and granulomatous inflammation of small vessels. Although the organ involvement in this case is atypical, a granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA)-like syndrome was suspected.

Diversity equity and inclusions in an academic surgery department: Exploring the present and building a future.

Introduction: The University of Washington Department of Surgery (DoS) Diversity Council created a survey to understand our socio-demographics, identify gaps regarding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and support efforts prioritizing DEI.

Methods: An anonymous, voluntary online survey was administered over 5 weeks to DoS members. Quantitative and qualitative analysis were performed using SurveyMonkey and Dedoose, respectively.
