The Surgical Treatment of Tuberous Breast Deformity: A Review Article.

Tuberous breast is a common congenital deformity that might present as unilateral or bilateral breast base constriction, asymmetry, areolar herniation, hypoplasia, ptosis, and skin deficiency. Patients might present with one or more of the mentioned features, rendering a consensus about the optimal surgical technique to correct this deformity nonexistent. In our review article, we present the most common classifications of a tuberous breast, in addition to several surgical approaches that attempt to treat this deformity.

Consensus on the management of platinum-sensitive high-grade serous epithelial ovarian cancer in Lebanon.

Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynecologic cancer. The high grade serous epithelial (HGSE) subtype is the most aggressive and it often presents at advanced stages, while screening programs have not proven beneficial. Management of the advanced stages (FIGO III and IV), which constitute the majority of diagnoses, usually consists of platinum-based chemotherapy and cytoreductive surgery (primary or interval) followed by maintenance therapy.

Management of breast cancer patients with gene mutations in Lebanon of the Middle East: perspectives and challenges.

Background: This commentary explores and discusses the challenges oncologists face in diagnosing and managing breast cancer patients with gene mutations in Lebanon and the Middle East.

Methods: Key opinion leaders shared their recommendations to achieve better patient outcomes and satisfaction based on evidence-based medicine and their clinical experience in management.

Results: Challenges associated with management can be divided into four main levels: physicians, patients, test, and treatment factors.

Chronic myeloid leukemia is a myeloproliferative neoplasm that occurs more prominently in the older population, with a peak incidence at ages 45 to 85 years and a median age at diagnosis of 65 years. This disease comprises roughly 15% of all leukemias in adults. It is a clonal stem cell disorder of myeloid cells characterized by the presence of t(9;22) chromosomal translocation, also known as the Philadelphia chromosome, or its byproducts BCR-ABL fusion protein/messenger RNA, leading to the expression of a protein with enhanced tyrosine kinase activity.

Female oncologists in the Middle East and North Africa: progress towards gender equality.

Background: Female doctors are increasingly choosing oncology as a career while they are still under-represented in leadership positions globally. The European Society of Medical Oncology has recently surveyed its members regarding gender equality in the work place. Limited data are available from the Middle East.
