Clinical outcomes of functional endoscopic sinus surgery in cystic fibrosis patients - a single centre experience.

Background: Endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) is an established surgical option for cystic fibrosis (CF) patients with chronic rhinosinusitis that is refractory to conventional medical management. Objective and subjective evidence of benefit of ESS in this cohort of patients is currently conflicting in the literature.

Methodology: A single center retrospective study was undertaken of all CF patients (transplanted and non-transplanted) over the age of 16 who underwent an ESS over a six-year period from 2015 to 2021.

'Nothing About Us Without Us': exploring benefits and challenges of peer support for people with disability in peer support organisations - protocol paper for a qualitative coproduction project.

Introduction: One in six people live with disability in Australia with higher levels of disability of people from diverse communities, such as those with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. In Australia, CALD refers to people from diverse ethnicity and cultures, nationalities, societal structures and religions that may or may not speak a language other than English. This study employs researchers with lived experience of disability and peer support to study the impact of peer support for people with disability, including people from CALD backgrounds, in two peer-led organisations in New South Wales (NSW) Australia.

Revisiting the Great Ormond Street Hospital protocol for ward decannulation of children with tracheostomy.

Introduction: Tracheostomy decannulation is an important and final step in managing patients once the underlying issue requiring a tracheostomy resolves. However, no consensus exists on the optimal method to decannulate a paediatric patient. We revisit the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) tracheostomy decannulation protocol, a 5-day process involving downsizing the tracheostomy tube, capping, and observation, to evaluate its effectiveness and assess if changes to the protocol are required.

Estimates of Golf-Related Upper Extremity Injuries in the United States: A 10-Year Epidemiology Study (2011-2020).

Background: Golf is one of the most popular sports in the United States (US) and is played by participants of all ages and skill level. Given the popularity and sport-specific demands on the upper torso, golf poses a considerable risk for upper extremity (UE) injuries. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to (1) determine the incidence rate of UE golf injuries presenting to emergency departments (EDs) in the US, (2) determine the most commonly injured body parts and mechanisms of injury, and (3) compare current injury epidemiology with previous trends in the literature.

Transport features predict if a molecule is odorous.

In studies of vision and audition, stimuli can be chosen to span the visible or audible spectrum; in olfaction, the axes and boundaries defining the analogous odorous space are unknown. As a result, the population of olfactory space is likewise unknown, and anecdotal estimates of 10,000 odorants have endured. The journey a molecule must take to reach olfactory receptors (ORs) and produce an odor percept suggests some chemical criteria for odorants: a molecule must 1) be volatile enough to enter the air phase, 2) be nonvolatile and hydrophilic enough to sorb into the mucous layer coating the olfactory epithelium, 3) be hydrophobic enough to enter an OR binding pocket, and 4) activate at least one OR.
