This study compared the effect of two frequencies of direct cold atmospheric plasma (direct-CAP) treatment with standard of care (SOC) alone on healing of venous leg ulcers (VLUs). Open-label, randomized controlled trial (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04922463) on chronic VLUs at two home care organizations in the Netherlands.

The long-term postoperative effect of the Baerveldt glaucoma drainage device and of a trabeculectomy on the corneal endothelium.

Purpose: To determine whether the postoperative corneal endothelial cell density (ECD) differs between glaucoma patients who underwent Baerveldt implant (BGI) surgery and patients who underwent a trabeculectomy (TE) over 5 years ago.

Methods: Cross-sectional, observational study including 34 patients who underwent TE and 36 patients who underwent BGI surgery 5-11 years ago, as part of a randomized clinical trial. None of the patients had a history of intraocular surgery prior to their glaucoma surgery.

On the Ability of Nickel Complexes Derived from Tripodal Aminopyridine Ligands to Catalyze Arene Hydroxylations.

The development of catalysts for the selective hydroxylation of aromatic C-H bonds is an essential challenge in current chemical research. The accomplishment of this goal requires the discovery of powerful metal-based oxidizing species capable of hydroxylating inert aromatic bonds in a selective manner, avoiding the generation of non-selective oxygen-centered radicals. Herein we show an investigation on the ability of nickel(ii) complexes supported by tripodal tetradentate aminopyridine ligands to catalyze the direct hydroxylation of benzene to phenol with H₂O₂ as oxidant.

An atypical case of Fanconi anemia in elderly sibs.

We describe a 56-year-old woman suspected of Fanconi anemia on the basis of the following clinical findings: microcephaly, short stature, congenital deafness, and the clinical findings in her deceased brother. Hematologic or other signs of malignancy were absent. The diagnosis was confirmed by demonstrating hypersensitivity of her lymphocytes to mitomycin C (MMC).
