Compared to men, women have been reported to have increased morbidity and mortality after ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI); but sex differences in cardiac function in the acute and subacute phases of STEMI are incompletely understood. The objective of this study was to prospectively compare changes in cardiac function over the acute and subacute phases after anterior STEMI with timely reperfusion in women versus men. The Stunning in Takotsubo versus Acute Myocardial Infarction (STAMI) study (NCT04448639) prospectively enrolled 105 men and 41 women with anterior STEMI.

Background: Premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) predict coronary heart disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation and death, all of which are also related to sodium intake. We studied estimated sodium intake and PVC frequency in the randomly selected population-based Swedish CArdioPulmonary bioImage Study cohort.

Methods: In our cross-sectional study, we included 5636 individuals with 24-hour ECG registration and fasting morning urine sampling.

Background: Proton Arc Treatment (PAT) has shown potential over Multi-Field Optimization (MFO) for out-of-target dose reduction in particular for head and neck (H&N) patients. A feasibility test, including delivery in a clinical environment is still missing in the literature and a necessary requirement before clinical application of PAT.

Purpose: To perform a comprehensive comparison between clinically delivered MFO plans and static PAT plans for H&N treatments, followed by end-to-end commissioning of the system to prepare for clinical treatments.

Background And Aims: Ambulatory patients presenting with signs or symptoms of heart failure (HF) should undergo natriuretic peptide testing. Rates of death, HF hospitalization, and healthcare costs were examined in patients thus identified with suspected de novo HF.

Methods: This population-based study (REVOLUTION HF) encompassing two large healthcare regions in Sweden examined patients who presented to outpatient care for the first time between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2020, who had a recorded sign (peripheral oedema) or symptom (dyspnoea) of HF, and whose N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) measured >300 ng/L within ±30 days of that sign or symptom.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are lipid bilayer particles released by virtually all cells, with prominent roles in both physiological and pathological processes. The size, number, and molecular composition of released EVs correlate to the cells of origin, modulated by the cell's environment and pathologic state. The proteins, DNA, RNA, and protein cargo carried by EVs are protected by degradation, with a prominent role in targeted intercellular signaling.
