Obesity in Hidradenitis Suppurativa: Are GLP-1 Receptor Agonists the New Frontier?

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is an inflammatory skin disorder presenting with painful and draining nodules in intertriginous areas that may progress to sinus tracts. There is an increased prevalence of obesity in HS, and obesity may predispose patients to HS. Weight loss has been associated with improvement of HS symptoms.

International Application of the Working With Older Adult Scale.

The workforce is not prepared to meet the needs of the number of older adults (OAs) across the globe. The study examines the Theory of Planned Behavior via the Working with Older Adults Scale (WOAS) in a group of university-aged international students to better understand global perceptions of working with older adults. We also compared North American and International students' attitudes, perceived behavioral control, and intention to work with older adults.

Case series; NUS1 deletions cause a progressive myoclonic epilepsy with ataxia.

Purpose: Mutations in NUS1 cause a neurological congenital glycosylation disorder which encompasses a spectrum from developmental encephalopathy to musculoskeletal, hearing, and visual abnormalities. Pathogenic variants include both point mutations and genomic deletions. We report an adult phenotype of progressive myoclonus epilepsy (PME) and a review of cases with a complete or partial deletion of NUS1.

Evaluating Countermeasures Against Marburg Virus Using a Mouse Model.

Animal models are key tools for understanding Marburg virus (MARV) pathogenesis and evaluating novel countermeasures. Rodents, in particular, are useful model systems because they are inexpensive and easy to house and handle in maximum containment laboratories. Unfortunately, wild-type MARV, like other filoviruses, does not cause disease in immune-competent rodents and must first be adapted to the rodent host, typically through serial passaging.

The Health Equity Scholars Program: Fostering Culturally Competent and Successful Independent Investigators in Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementia Research.

Introduction: The Health Equity Scholars Program (HESP) addresses the critical need for a diverse, culturally competent workforce to study and treat older adults from underrepresented populations (URPs) with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD). The HESP offers tailored mentored training in AD/ADRD research concepts, aiming to develop successful independent researchers. It recruits Scholars from underrepresented backgrounds as well as those passionate about AD/ADRD health equity research.
