Objective:  Management of neonatal abstinence syndrome includes nonpharmacological interventions, but their effectiveness may not be verified before implemented. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a type of bassinet in the treatment of infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome.

Study Design:  This is a retrospective observational cohort study.

Health literacy of critical care patients in a remote area health service: A cross-sectional survey.

Background: Lower life expectancy, higher rates of chronic disease, and poorer uptake of health services are common in remote patient populations. Patients with poor health literacy (HL) are less likely to attend appointments, adhere to medications, and have higher rates of chronic illness. Evidence underpinning the relationship between HL and inequity in remote critical care populations is sparse.

Heparan Sulfate: A Regulator of White Adipocyte Differentiation and of Vascular/Adipocyte Interactions.

White adipose tissues are major endocrine organs that release factors, termed adipokines, which affect other major organ systems. The development and functions of adipose tissues depend largely upon the glycosaminoglycan heparan sulfate. Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) surround both adipocytes and vascular structures and facilitate the communication between these two components.

The goal of the Aging Matters column is to address important issues related to geropsychiatry and the well-being of older adults. This article offers reflections on columns from the past 15 years and how the aging process has changed in issues related to aging and technology, aging healthfully, end-of-life issues, caregivers for older adults, and growing old in American society. To promote successful aging, we need to hear stories of what it is like to grow old in America.
