Unlabelled: The BioFire FilmArray meningitis/encephalitis panel (MEP) was brought to the University of Kentucky in 2016 to aid in the identification of community-acquired meningitis and encephalitis (ME). This panel has shown variable performance with some institutions showing high sensitivity and specificity for many pathogens but others seeing false positives during clinical use. We evaluated the panel's performance using retrospective chart review of patients at the University of Kentucky from October 2016 to September 2022, including 7,551 MEP results.

Purpose To evaluate TF as a potential surrogate for tumor burden, assessed at contrast-enhanced CT across diverse metastatic cancers. Methods This retrospective monocentric study included patients with cancer and metastatic disease, with TF results and contemporaneous contrast-enhanced CT performed between January 2021 and January 2023.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTau has a wide variety of essential functions in the brain, but this protein also plays a determining role in the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other neurodegenerative diseases called tauopathies. This is due to its abnormal aggregation and the subsequent formation of neurofibrillary tangles. Tau hyperphosphorylation appears to be a critical step in its transformation into an aggregated protein.
