Objective: Large pressure ulcers are a well know problem occurring frequently on immobilized patients. They can develop rapidly especially over bony prominences on the elderly, ICU patients and on patients after spinal cord injury. Plastic surgical treatment can be challenging if the defects are large and complications occur like affection of anal region or development of a Marjolin's scar ulcer.

Random inductor–capacitor (LC) networks can exhibit percolative superconductor-insulator transitions (SITs). We use a simple and efficient algorithm to compute the dynamicalconductivity σ(ω,p) of one type of LC network on large (4000 × 4000) square lattices, where δ = p − p(c) is the tuning parameter for the SIT. We confirm that the conductivity obeys a scaling form, so that the characteristic frequency scales as∝|δ|(νz) with νz ≈ 1.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential role of variable microRNA (miRNA) expression in the development of multidrug resistance (MDR) in head and neck cancer.

Methods: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cell lines UMSCC-1 and SQ20B were treated with docetaxel at increasing concentrations to develop resistant cell lines. Parental and resistant cells were treated with cisplatin, 5-fluorouracil, paclitaxel, methotrexate, and doxorubicin to confirm cross-resistance.

The toxic potency of three industrially used hydroxylamines was studied in human blood cells in vitro. The parent compound hydroxylamine and the O-ethyl derivative gave very similar results. Both compounds induced a high degree of methemoglobin formation and glutathione depletion.
