Background: Minor Ophthalmic Procedures (MOP), especially cataract or glaucoma surgery, are considered low risk. However, in France, anesthesia must be monitored continuously and carried out by an anesthetist or a nurse anesthetist (NA). Article Synopsis
  • Rhabdomyomas are the most common benign heart tumors, often associated with tuberous sclerosis, and can be diagnosed through echocardiography both before and after birth.
  • These tumors usually shrink on their own, and surgery is only needed if they block blood flow or cause serious heart rhythm issues.
  • The case study highlights a child with tuberous sclerosis who was treated for a brain tumor and also discovered to have cardiac rhabdomyomas in the right ventricular outflow tract, illustrating the connection between these two types of tumors in this condition.

Following surgical closure of an interventricular communication complicating an anterior myocardial infarction, a 74-year-old woman developed severe right ventricular failure and hypoxemia due to the opening of a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Mean pulmonary artery pressure was 24 mm Hg. Treatment with inhaled nitric oxide (5 ppm) increased PaO2 from 47 to 90 mm Hg (FIo(2)1).
