Out of 344 patients with newly diagnosed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), this study identified 16 patients presenting Burkitt-like cells (BLCs) after cytological and/or histological review. Conventional cytogenetic analysis showed at diagnosis complex chromosomal abnormalities in 13 cases and a normal karyotype in three cases. However, neither t(8;14)(q24;q32) nor the variants t(2;8)(p12;q24) or t(8;22)(q24;q11) was detected.

In 15 patients with chronic heart failure of ischemic origin who were not previously treated with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, platelets exhibited hyperaggregability and impaired responsiveness to the antiaggregatory and cyclic guanosine monophosphate-stimulatory effects of nitric oxide donor sodium nitroprusside compared with normal subjects; this was paralleled by increased blood levels of superoxide radicals. Treatment with perindopril for 4 days significantly improved platelet responses to sodium nitroprusside; there was also a trend toward a decrease in superoxide radical levels.

The association of second malignancies in hairy cell leukemia (HCL) is well recognized. Most of these malignancies are either solid tumors or lymphoproliferative disorders rather than myeloproliferative disorders. But these malignancies are usually related to a complication of the drug treatment for HCL.

The 1981 Police Stress Survey of Spielberger, Westbury, Grier, and Greenfield was administered to 99 metropolitan and suburban police officers. Internal consistency reliabilities were in the .90s for both the total scale and two subscales which measure administrative/organizational and physical/psychological stressors.
