Cervical radicular pain caused by herpes simplex virus-type 1 infection: a case report.

Rofecoxib-associated upper gastrointestinal bleed: a case report.

To our knowledge, this is the first clinical report of a rofecoxib-associated upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage. We urge caution in prescribing rofecoxib to patients with risk factors for peptic ulcer disease and recommend limiting the dose to 25 mg per day for these patients.

Preemptive epidural analgesia for thoracic surgery.

The purpose of this study was to determine if preemptive epidural analgesia performed before thoracotomy incision and during the operation reduces postoperative pain. Patients in the treatment group received 8 mL of 0.25% bupivacaine and 2 mL of fentanyl (50 microg/mL) via the epidural route prior to skin incision, followed by an infusion of bupivacaine 0.

Central nervous system toxicity in a patient receiving continuous intrapleural bupivacaine.

A patient developed signs of central nervous system (CNS) toxicity during treatment of postthoracotomy pain with a continuous intrapleural bupivacaine infusion. This incident occurred after the patient's chest tube was clamped, without any decrease in the bupivacaine infusion rate. This is the first reported case of CNS toxicity in a patient receiving a continuous intrapleural bupivacaine infusion.

Postoperative pain control with a new transdermal fentanyl delivery system. A multicenter trial.

Background: A new transdermal delivery system for fentanyl is available in two strengths: 70-80 and 90-100 micrograms.kg-1.h-1 (40- and 60-cm2 patches, respectively).
