Genicular Artery Embolization for Refractory Hemarthrosis following Total Knee Arthroplasty: Technique, Safety, Efficacy, and Patient-Reported Outcomes.

Purpose: To investigate the safety and efficacy of genicular artery embolization for treatment of refractory hemarthrosis following total knee arthroplasty.

Material And Methods: Patients who underwent genicular artery embolization with spherical embolics between January 2010 and March 2020 at a single institution were included if they had undergone total knee arthroplasty and subsequently experienced recurrent hemarthrosis. Technical success was defined as the significant reduction or elimination of the hyperemic blush.

Leucine disposal rate for assessment of amino acid metabolism in maintenance hemodialysis patients.

Background: Protein energy wasting (PEW) is common in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) and closely associated with poor outcomes. Insulin resistance and associated alterations in amino acid metabolism are potential pathways leading to PEW. We hypothesized that the measurement of leucine disposal during a hyperinsulinemic- euglycemic-euaminoacidemic clamp (HEAC) procedure would accurately measure the sensitivity to insulin for its actions on concomitant carbohydrate and protein metabolism in MHD patients.

Noninvasive treatment of uterine fibroids: early Mayo Clinic experience with magnetic resonance imaging-guided focused ultrasound.

Uterine fibroids often cause symptoms of pelvic pain, pressure, and bleeding. Traditional therapies have included medical (eg, hormonal therapy) and surgical (eg, myomectomy, hysterectomy) options. Recently, uterine artery embolization was added to the treatment armamentarium.

Measuring trauma and health status in refugees: a critical review.

Context: Refugees experience multiple traumatic events and have significant associated health problems, but data about refugee trauma and health status are often conflicting and difficult to interpret.

Objectives: To assess the characteristics of the literature on refugee trauma and health, to identify and evaluate instruments used to measure refugee trauma and health status, and to recommend improvements.

Data Sources: MEDLINE, PsychInfo, Health and PsychoSocial Instruments, CINAHL, and Cochrane Systematic Reviews (searched through OVID from the inception of each database to October 2001), and the New Mexico Refugee Project database.
