Objective: The extent of parotidectomy for benign tumors has de-escalated in the United States. We aim to define modern benchmarks for operative time and hospital length of stay (LOS) in parotidectomy and identify risk factors that may prolong these benchmarks.

Study Design: This is a retrospective cross-sectional study of all adults who underwent parotidectomy for a primary parotid neoplasm between January 2011 and December 2021 using the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database.

Article Synopsis
  • Weight loss can inadvertently lead to a decrease in both lean and fat tissue, potentially causing individuals, even younger ones, to become frail rather than just improving their body composition.
  • This systematic review will evaluate the impact of nutritional supplements on maintaining lean mass during weight loss, particularly when exercise isn't an option.
  • The findings will follow PRISMA standards and will be published in a peer-reviewed journal, marking a significant contribution to understanding nutritional support during weight loss.

Purpose Of Review: This review summarizes the different instruments for evaluating the psychosocial health of transplant candidates, the evidence demonstrating how these instruments relate to probability of transplant waitlisting and transplant outcomes, and the critical knowledge gaps that exist in the causal pathway between psychosocial health and clinical transplant trajectory.

Recent Findings: The current literature reveals that psychosocial assessments are a common reason for racial and ethnic minorities to be denied access to the transplant list. Given evidence that a lack of clinician consensus exists regarding the definition of, importance of, and reproducibility of psychosocial support evaluations, this facet of the holistic evaluation process may create a unique challenge for already vulnerable patient populations.

Objectives: Telemedicine enables stroke specialists to treat patients with suspected acute stroke in facilities lacking in-person coverage. Studies have compared telemedicine in rural settings to in-person evaluation in urban areas, introducing biases of different infrastructure capabilities and ancillary staff. In this study, the authors provide a comparison of door-to-needle time (DTN) in the administration of thrombolytics in a rural stroke network, where the acute stroke care is provided by the same stroke specialists both in-person and via telemedicine.
