CT perfusion for lesion-symptom mapping in large vessel occlusion ischemic stroke.

Background: Identifying eloquent regions associated with poor outcomes based on CT perfusion (CTP) may help inform personalized decisions on selection for endovascular therapy (EVT) in patients with large vessel occlusion (LVO) ischemic stroke. This study aimed to characterize the relationship between CTP-defined hypoperfusion and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) subitem deficits.

Methods: Patients with anterior circulation LVO, baseline CTP, itemized NIHSS at presentation and 24 hours were included.

Comparison of troponin and natriuretic peptides in Takotsubo syndrome and acute coronary syndrome: a meta-analysis.

Objective: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is an acute heart failure syndrome which resembles acute coronary syndrome (ACS) at presentation. Differentiation requires coronary angiography, but where this does not occur immediately, cardiac biomarkers may provide additional utility. We performed a meta-analysis to compare troponin and natriuretic peptides (NPs) in TTS and ACS to determine if differences in biomarker profile can aid diagnosis.

ICA-based denoising for ASL perfusion imaging.

Arterial Spin Labelling (ASL) imaging derives a perfusion image by tracing the accumulation of magnetically labeled blood water in the brain. As the image generated has an intrinsically low signal to noise ratio (SNR), multiple measurements are routinely acquired and averaged, at a penalty of increased scan duration and opportunity for motion artefact. However, this strategy alone might be ineffective in clinical settings where the time available for acquisition is limited and patient motion are increased.

Impact of an Australian state-wide active travel campaign targeting primary schools.

Active travel can have health and environmental benefits. This study evaluated the impact of a month-long (October 2015) campaign encouraging primary school children in Victoria, Australia to engage in active school travel. With support from local councils, schools participated in the campaign by monitoring active school travel and delivering promotional activities.

Comprehensive geriatric assessment in primary care: a systematic review.

Background: Comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) involves the multidimensional assessment and management of an older person. It is well described in hospital and home-based settings. A novel approach could be to perform CGA within primary healthcare, the initial community located healthcare setting for patients, improving accessibility to a co-located multidisciplinary team.
