Separation of congenital embryonic syndactylies in children: dorsal or volar flap? About a comparative retrospective series.

Congenital syndactylies account for 1 to 2 out of 2000 birth defects. Although several types of syndactylies exist, we only studied embryonic syndactylies. The goal of our study was to compare 2 types of coverage flap for the reconstruction of the finger web spaces: a volar flap described by Blauth and a dorsal flap described by Gilbert.

Eikenella corrodens bone and hip joint infection. A case report and literature review.

Unlabelled: Eikenella corrodens (EC) is a human commensal microorganism of the mouth flora. This bacterium is rarely reported in bone and joint infections in children, but the consequences on the joint function can be devastating and irreversible. We report the case of septic arthritis of the hip following an oral wound in a 12-year-old boy.

Long term follow up of two independent patients with Schinzel-Giedion carrying SETBP1 mutations.

Schinzel-Giedion syndrome (SGS, MIM #269150) is a rare syndrome characterized by severe intellectual disability, typical facial gestalt, hypertrichosis and multiple congenital malformations including skeletal, genitourinary, renal and cardiac abnormalities. The prognosis of SGS is very severe and death occurs generally within a few years after birth. In 2002, we reported 2 children with SGS with a follow-up of 3 years.

Intramedullary nails for pediatric diaphyseal femur fractures in older, heavier children: early results.

Purpose: A common treatment for pediatric femur fractures is intramedullary nail (IMN) insertion. Elastic stable intramedullary nails (ESINs) are often used for these procedures in heavier patients, but the potential for complications and malunion is greater. We describe here a rigid IMN specifically designed for adolescents, the adolescent lateral entry femoral nail (ALFN).
