How has the COVID-19 pandemic influenced prostate cancer?-a tertiary single-centre analysis of oncological results, diagnosis and treatment times.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has affected care for diseases like cancer. The aim was to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on waiting times for diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer (PC), as well as the possible effect on the treatment results in PC patients undergoing radical prostatectomy.
Methods: We compared the results of 497 patients who underwent biopsy prior to the COVID-19 pandemic (1 January-31 December 2019) with those of 290 patients biopsied during the COVID-19 pandemic (1 January-31 December 2020).
The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has caused tens of thousands of deaths in Spain and has managed to breakdown the healthcare system hospitals in the Community of Madrid, largely due to its tendency to cause severe pneumonia, requiring ventilatory support. This fact has caused our center to collapse, with 130% of its beds occupied by COVID-19 patients, thus causing the absolute cessation of activity of the urology service, the practical disappearance of resident training programs, and the incorporation of a good part of the urology staff into the group of medical personnel attending these patients. In order to recover from this extraordinary level of suspended activity, we will be obliged to prioritize pathologies based on purely clinical criteria, for which tables including the relevance of each pathology within each area of urology are being proposed.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose Of The Review: To update the most relevant literature regarding complex vascular cases in kidney transplant setting involving the graft, especially during the harvesting procedure and back-table preparation from the subsequent implant.
Recent Findings: Challenging situations affecting the kidney graft such as multiple vessels, renal artery aneurysms, kidney anatomical anomalies, or major injuries do not contraindicate the transplant, but require an exhaustive graft viability assessment and several bench surgery techniques. Graft vessel conditioning in the back-table might include simple anastomosis between them, enlarging with venous patch or reconstruction with donor or synthetic grafts.
