Many plant species are known to take up metals from the soil and accumulate them to potentially toxic levels. This may provide tolerance to soils with high metal content or a defensive mechanism against herbivores and pathogens. Accumulators, plants that uptake and store elevated concentrations of metals, can be used in phytoremediation as a means to remove metals from contaminated soils.

Actively targeted drug loaded nanoparticles represent an exciting new form of therapeutics for cancer and other diseases. These formulations are complex and in order to realize their ultimate potential, optimization of their preparation is required. In this current study, we have examined the conjugation of a model targeting ligand, conjugated in a site-specific manner using a vinyl sulfone coupling approach.

Aims: SECRAB was a prospective, open-label, multicentre, randomised phase III trial comparing synchronous to sequential chemoradiotherapy (CRT). Conducted in 48 UK centres, it recruited 2297 patients (1150 synchronous and 1146 sequential) between 2 July 1998 and 25 March 2004. SECRAB reported a positive therapeutic benefit of using adjuvant synchronous CRT in the management of breast cancer; 10-year local recurrence rates reduced from 7.

Background: Metastasis-directed therapy (MDT) significantly delays the initiation of palliative androgen deprivation therapy (pADT) in patients with oligorecurrent prostate cancer (PCa) with a positive impact on patient's quality of life. However, it remains unclear whether the addition of ADT improves polymetastatic free survival (PMFS) and metastatic castration refractory PCa-free survival (mCRPC-FS) and how long concomitant hormone therapy should be given. A significant overall survival (OS) benefit was shown when an androgen receptor targeted agent (ARTA) was added to pADT in patients with metastatic hormone sensitive PCa (HSPC).
