Care coordination in the spina bifida clinic setting: current practice and future directions.

Introduction: Although the potential benefits of care coordination are widely recognized, little is known about care coordination in the multidisciplinary spina bifida clinic setting. This study examined several aspects of care coordination in this environment.

Method: We conducted semi-structured interviews with clinic staff (N = 43) and focus groups with caregivers (N = 38) at seven spina bifida clinics in the United States.

The National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP), administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), provides breast and cervical cancer screening to low-income women who are uninsured or underinsured. For women with three consecutive annual Pap tests with normal findings, the NBCCEDP supports extending the screening interval to every 3 years. Thirteen telephone focus groups were conducted with physician providers in 17 states and the District of Columbia to investigate familiarity with NBCCEDP's triennial Pap test policy, the Pap test intervals actually used, and the factors influencing screening interval selection.

Phase I study on bruceantin administered on a weekly schedule.

Fifteen adult patients with advanced solid tumors received bruceantin at doses of 1.6-6.0 mg/m2 iv for 30 minutes/week X 4, followed by a 2-week rest.

Phase I evaluation of ICRF-187 (NSC-169780) in patients with advanced malignancy.

ICRF-187 (NSC-169780), the (+) enantiomer of the racemic antineoplastic agent ICRF-159 (NSc-129943), was administered intravenously for five days every three weeks to 18 patients in a phase I study. Leukopenia was the dose-limiting toxicity. Mild reversible elevations in SGOT and bilirubin were common.

Plasma levels and urinary excretion of methyl-GAG following iv infusion in man.

The pharmacokinetics of methyl-GAG was studied after nephrectomy in five patients with renal cell carcinoma and in one patient with breast cancer. Following rapid infusion (30 minutes) of 700 mg/m2 of methyl-GAG, terminal half-life of 136-224 hours. Drug levels declined to 6%-20% of the initial plasma concentration in the first 24 hours.
