Urban vegetation provides many ecosystem services like heat island mitigation. However, urban trees are subjected to the stresses that they are meant to alleviate, with drought being a main constraint. We investigated the drought response strategy of plane trees (Platanus × hispanica), focusing on stomatal regulation and metabolic remodelling.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study conducted in Paris quantified these effects using a model that included tree-specific attributes and air-quality simulations from June to July 2022.
  • * Results indicated that while the aerodynamic effect of trees increased pollutant concentrations in high-traffic areas, the dry deposition effect was minimal, and biogenic emissions significantly raised concentrations of certain compounds, suggesting a preference for planting low-emission trees.

Background: Development of appropriateness indicators of medical interventions has become a major quality-of-care issue, especially in the domain of interventional cardiology (IC). The objective of this study was to develop and evaluate the accuracy of an indicator of the appropriateness of interventional cardiology acts (invasive coronary angiographies (ICA) and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI)) in patients with coronary stable disease and silent ischemia, automated from a French registry.

Methods: All ICA and PCI recorded in a Regional IC Registry (ACIRA) and operated for a stable coronary artery disease or silent ischemia from January 1st to December 31th 2013 in eight IC hospitals of Aquitaine, southwestern France, were included.

In barley, incubation of primary dormant (D1) grains on water under conditions that do not allow germination, i.e. 30°C in air and 15°C or 30°C in 5% O2, induces a secondary dormancy (D2) expressed as a loss of the ability to germinate at 15°C in air.
