Inequalities in colorectal cancer diagnosis by ethnic group: a population-level study in the English National Health Service.

Objective: Studies in the USA examining the relationship between ethnicity and colorectal cancer (CRC) identified significant variation. This study sought to examine the relationship between ethnic group, route to diagnosis, early-onset CRC and stage at diagnosis in the English National Health Service.

Methods: Data from COloRECTal cancer data Repository for all individuals diagnosed with CRC (International Classification of Diseases version 10, C18-C20) between 2012 and 2017.

A Multi-Centre Study to Risk Stratify Colorectal Polyp Surveillance Patients Utilising Volatile Organic Compounds and Faecal Immunochemical Test.

(1) Background: The service capacity for colonoscopy remains constrained, and while efforts are being made to recover elective services, polyp surveillance remains a challenge. (2) Methods: This is a multi-centre study recruiting patients already on polyp surveillance. Stool and urine samples were collected for the faecal immunochemical test (FIT) and volatile organic compounds (VOC) analysis, and all participants then underwent surveillance colonoscopy.

The Fast Track FIT study: diagnostic accuracy of faecal immunochemical test for haemoglobin in patients with suspected colorectal cancer.

Background: The faecal immunochemical test (FIT) is now available to support clinicians in the assessment of patients at low risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) and within the bowel cancer screening programme.

Aim: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of FIT for CRC and clinically significant disease in patients referred as they were judged by their GP to fulfil National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guideline 12 (NG12) criteria for suspected CRC.

Design And Setting: Patients referred from primary care with suspected CRC, meeting NG12 criteria, to 12 secondary care providers in Yorkshire and Humber were asked to complete a FIT before investigation.
