Single-injection nerve blocks for total knee arthroplasty: femoral nerve block versus femoral triangle block versus adductor canal block-a randomized controlled double-blinded trial.

Introduction: Femoral nerve block (FNB) is a well-established analgesic technique for TKA. However, it associates quadriceps weakness. Therefore, femoral triangle block (FTB) and adductor canal block (ACB) were proposed as effective alternative motor-spearing techniques.

[Influence of patient-prosthesis mismatch in the octogenarian undergoing surgery for aortic valve replacement due to severe stenosis].

Introduction And Objectives: The clinical impact of patient-prosthesis mismatch on the outcome in octogenarians who undergo surgery for aortic valve replacement due to severe stenosis is unknown. Our objective was to quantify the frequency of some degree of patient-prosthesis mismatch and its impact on mortality and life quality.

Methods: We analyzed all the octogenarian patients who underwent surgery for aortic valve replacement due to severe stenosis in our center from February 2004 to April 2009.

Pulmonary valve endocarditis: mid-term follow up of pulmonary valvectomies.

Four males aged 20-37 years (three drug addicts and one with a congenital mixed pulmonary valve lesion) were diagnosed in 1989, 1991 and 1993 with pulmonary valve endocarditis without tricuspid infection. Three patients were positive for hepatitis B, C or both, and one patient was HIV-positive. The predominant organism in blood cultures was Staphylococcus aureus.

Intimal sarcoma of the left pulmonary artery: diagnosis, treatment and survival.

A rare case of intimal sarcoma of the left pulmonary artery, diagnosed by fine needle aspiration biopsy and treated by pneumonectomy, is presented. Survival was nearly 4 years and the patient died as the result of attempted resection of a local recurrence. The literature is reviewed.
