Denture biofilm increases respiratory diseases in the elderly. A mini-review.

Purpose: This mini-review discusses the clinical implication of respiratory pathogens in the biofilm on acrylic resin removable dentures in the elderly.

Methods: A search was conducted using the keywords: "dentures", " acrylic resin", "biofilm", "pneumonia", "elderly", "respiratory pathogens", and "respiratory diseases" in databases PubMed/Medline, Lilacs, SciELO and textbooks between 1999 and 2024.

Results: The elderly are more susceptible to chronic diseases and/or life-threatening infections because of senescence itself and functional and degenerative alterations.

Chemical diversity of the herbal decoction of Plectranthus ornatus and its anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities in zebrafish models.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Plectranthus ornatus is a medicinal plant originally from Africa but adapted to Brazil's climate conditions. It is recognized for its therapeutic properties, particularly for treating liver and stomach diseases, gastritis control, heartburn, and hangover. Therefore, studies on its chemical composition and pharmacological evaluation are important for the safe use of the plant.

Robinin Isolated From Solanum Asperum Exhibits Pharmacological Actions in the Central Nervous System of Adult Zebrafish (Danio rerio).

This study investigated the anxiolytic, anticonvulsant and memory preservation effects of the flavonoid robinin. The compound, administered at doses of 4, 20 and 40 mg/kg, did not show toxicity after 96 h of monitoring. In behavioural experiments with zebrafish, robinin did not cause significant changes in motor functions, but it impairs locomotor activity and demonstrates anxiolytic properties, evidenced by the increase in the time spent in the clean zone of the protector.

Neoadjuvant therapy in rectal cancer-one year follow-up results of standard versus total neoadjuvant strategies.

Background: Locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) poses a significantly challenge in clinical management, requiring a multimodal treatment approach. Among innovative strategies, Total Neoadjuvant Therapy (TNT) has emerged, delivering all planned chemotherapy before surgery.

Objective: Our aim was to evaluate the real-world application and efficacy of TNT and to compare it with the non-TNT standard strategy.

Surgical site infection prevention care bundles in colorectal surgery: a scoping review.

Background: Surgical site infection (SSI) prevention bundles have been used to reduce infection rates in most types of surgery. Bundles tailored to colorectal surgery have been used with success.

Aim: To identify and review the individual interventions that constitute each SSI prevention care bundle in colorectal surgery, and the reduction in SSI rate associated with their implementation.
