Ichthyosis follicularis, atrichia and photophobia (IFAP) and hereditary mucoepithelial dysplasia: Two syndromes that share a common clinical spectrum.

Ichthyosis follicularis, atrichia and photophobia syndrome (IFAP) is an X-linked inherited disease caused by pathogenic variants in the gene encoding the membrane-bound transcription factor peptidase, site 2 (MBTPS2). Clinical presentation includes ichthyosis follicularis, alopecia, photophobia and developmental delay. Hereditary mucoepithelial dysplasia (HMD) is a dominantly inherited disease characterized by keratitis, non-scarring alopecia, skin lesions including follicular keratosis, perineal erythema, and mucosal involvement.

Neurothekeoma: Report of two cases in children and review of the literature.

Neurothekeomas, or simply nerve sheath myxomas, are rare benign skin neoplasms. They are believed to derive from peripheral nerve sheath transformation and are typically more prevalent in females. They tend to be found mainly on the upper limbs as well as head and neck locations.

Laboratory studies of susceptibility and resistance to insecticides in Pediculus capitis (Anoplura; Pediculidae).

The susceptibility of local head lice to permethrin, sumithrin, deltamethrin, and carbaryl was determined by laboratory bioassays in field-collected colonies. Head lice collected from the infested heads of children 6-12 yr old were tested within 3 h of collection. The longest survival of control insects in the laboratory was obtained by keeping them in the dark at 18 degrees C and 70-80% RH.

[Skeletal changes caused by etretinate].

A patient of 4 years of age, male is presented, that suffered from generalized pustulous psoriasis. The small response to prednisone and the aggravation of the symptomatology motivated the use of etretinate, in the dose of 1 mg/kg/day during six months obtaining the remission. Two years later he was seen again having minimal lesions of periumbilical psoriasis, observing delay in the growth, and in the radiological exam: periostic separation in the inferior part of femur, modeling alteration of the metaphysis, diffuse demineralization, slender bone, and a bone age of one and a half year.
