Article Synopsis
  • Leptospirosis is a neglected zoonotic disease with significant outbreak potential, particularly in tropical islands where environmental factors like climate and invasive species heighten infection risks.
  • Machine learning models were developed using surveillance data from seven tropical islands to analyze the impact of climate on leptospirosis seasonality and yearly incidence anomalies, allowing for predictions in areas lacking data.
  • While climate is a major factor in seasonal trends of leptospirosis across diverse tropical environments, the reliability of using climate indicators to predict yearly variations varies by island.

Most cancer diagnoses rely on biomarkers detection. This could be improved if directly conducted in suspicious cancer spots, preventing the need for biopsy. Lung cancer remains a perfect study-case for such a development, as it is generally detected at advanced stage and is in the need for early diagnosis techniques.

Introduction: The estimation of the non-linear viscoelastic characteristics of human soft tissues, such as ligaments and tendon, is often affected by the implemented procedure. This study aims at developing and validating a protocol, associated with a contactless and automatic procedure, enabling the determination of the material behavior and properties of any soft tissues.

Methods: Several markers were drawn onto the soft tissue specimen analyzed under uniaxial tensile test.

This work presents the development of an innovative plasmonic optical fiber (OF) immunosensor for the detection of cytokeratin 17 (CK17), a biomarker of interest for lung cancer diagnosis. The development of this sensing platform is such that it can be assessed in non-liquid environments, demonstrating that a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) can be excited in this case. For this purpose, detections have been first carried out on CK17 encapsulated in gel matrix in the aim of mimicking tissue samples.
