Community Engagement Studios to advance multi-site research with older adults.

Introduction: Operationalizing multi-site Community Engagement (CE) Studios to inform a research program is valuable for researchers. We describe the process and outcomes of hosting three CE Studios with Community Experts aged 65 years or older with chronic conditions and care partners of older adults. Experts gave feedback about processes for testing the feasibility, efficacy, effectiveness, and implementation of audio recording clinic visits and sharing recordings with patients who have multimorbidity and their care partners.

The feasibility of sharing digital audio-recordings of clinic visits online with older adults in primary care settings: A multisite trial.

Objective: The objective of this trial was to determine the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness of sharing audio recordings of primary care visits with older adults with multimorbidity.

Methods: We used a two-arm, randomized, controlled, feasibility trial with 3-month follow-up. Patients aged ≥ 65 years-with diabetes and hypertension-were recruited from academic primary care settings in New Hampshire, Tennessee, and Texas.

Renal Angptl4 is a key fibrogenic molecule in progressive diabetic kidney disease.

Angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4), a key protein involved in lipoprotein metabolism, has diverse effects. There is an association between Angptl4 and diabetic kidney disease; however, this association has not been well investigated. We show that both podocyte- and tubule-specific ANGPTL4 are crucial fibrogenic molecules in diabetes.

Outcomes Associated With Novel Oral Anticoagulants and Warfarin in Patients With Cardiac Thrombus Following ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction.

The treatment of cardiac thrombus after ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is anticoagulation. There are conflicting data on the effectiveness and safety of novel oral anticoagulants (NOACs) versus warfarin. Using the national Medicare data, we identified patients with an admission diagnosis of STEMI and cardiac thrombus within 6 months after STEMI.

The Role of Pain Medications in Modulating Peripheral Nerve Injury Recovery.

Peripheral nerve injuries (PNIs) are common, costly, and cause significant pain. Effective management of PNIs involves tailoring medications to the injury type as well as understanding the pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics to support nerve regeneration and reduce pain. Opioids act on opioid receptors to significantly reduce pain for many patients, but there are significant addiction risks and side effects.
