A phase III placebo- and oxycodone-controlled study of tanezumab in adults with osteoarthritis pain of the hip or knee.

Tanezumab is a humanized monoclonal antinerve growth factor antibody in development for treatment of chronic pain. In a phase III, placebo- and active-controlled study, we investigated the efficacy and safety of tanezumab for osteoarthritis (OA) hip or knee pain. Patients (N=610) received up to 2 doses of intravenous tanezumab (5 or 10mg in 8-week intervals), controlled-release oral oxycodone (10 to 40 mg every 12 hours), or placebo.

A randomized placebo-controlled trial comparing the efficacy of etoricoxib 30 mg and ibuprofen 2400 mg for the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis.

Objective: We compared the efficacy of etoricoxib 30 mg to placebo and ibuprofen 2400 mg for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip and knee.

Design: In this 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo- and active-comparator-controlled trial, 548 patients (median age 63 years) with OA of the hip or knee were randomized to receive placebo, etoricoxib 30 mg q.d.

Safety and tolerability of tegaserod in patients with chronic constipation: pooled data from two phase III studies.

Background & Aims: Studies show that tegaserod effectively relieves the symptoms of chronic constipation/idiopathic constipation (CC). This pooled analysis assessed the safety and tolerability of tegaserod in a large dataset of CC patients.

Methods: Adverse event (AE) data were pooled from 2 double-blind, placebo-controlled phase III trials of 12 weeks' duration.

Safety and tolerability of tegaserod in patients with irritable bowel syndrome and diarrhea symptoms.

Objectives: Tegaserod is a selective serotonin (5-HT4) receptor partial agonist effective in providing relief from abdominal pain, bloating, and constipation in patients with irritable bowel syndrome. Tegaserod therapy may be associated with early transient diarrhea, which is related to its mechanism of action. This study was performed in patients with irritable bowel syndrome and symptoms of diarrhea to further assess the safety of tegaserod.
