Background: The demographics of medical schools reveal a growing trend towards greater gender and underrepresented in medicine (UIM) representation among students, yet surgical residency lags behind. This study explores the demographics of first-year medical students (M1s) and their initial career interests.
Methods: A panel of faculty physicians and fourth-year medical students in surgical and nonsurgical specialties was held for M1s during orientation week.
Background: As robotic surgeries increase nationwide, residency programs are implementing commensurate curriculum. Medical student exposure and comfort with these surgeries, however, is lagging. This program sought to improve student interest and confidence through additional robotic exposure.

The purpose of this study was to assess changes in student perceptions of BSO as a career following an interactive multidisciplinary workshop.
Methods: Pre-clinical medical students participated in a multidisciplinary, hands-on workshop, composed of breast radiology (BR), breast surgical oncology (BSO) and breast plastic reconstructive surgery (B-PRS).
Objective: The number of women graduating from United States medical schools has reached parity with that of men. However, persistent inequalities and barriers have slowed the pace toward equity in application and representation in neurosurgery residency despite initiatives to increase female representation. The objective of the present study was to assess the advancement of gender parity within neurosurgery residency programs.

All too often, these programs begin in college, long after many students of diverse backgrounds have been left behind through a myriad of barriers that exist between entering high school and matriculating to medical school. The Building Approachable Surgical Experiences (BASE) outreach program was designed to showcase healthcare careers, with an emphasis on surgical subspecialties, to historically underserved high school students.
