SARS-CoV-2 is a coronavirus causing a globalized outbreak called COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2 transmission is associated with inhalation of contaminated respiratory droplets and could causes severe complications. IntroductionSevere acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the etiological agent of coronavirus disease (COVID-19). People infected with SARS-CoV-2 may exhibit no or mild non-specific symptoms; thus, they may contribute to silent circulation of the virus among humans. Since SARS-CoV-2 RNA can be detected in stool samples, monitoring SARS-CoV-2 RNA in waste water (WW) has been proposed as a complementary tool to investigate virus circulation in human populations.

Colonization kinetics and implantation follow-up of the sewage microbiome in an urban wastewater treatment plant.

The Seine-Morée wastewater treatment plant (SM_WWTP), with a capacity of 100,000 population-equivalents, was fed with raw domestic wastewater during all of its start-up phase. Its microbiome resulted from the spontaneous evolution of wastewater-borne microorganisms. This rare opportunity allowed us to analyze the sequential microbiota colonization and implantation follow up during the start-up phase of this WWTP by means of regular sampling carried out over 8 months until the establishment of a stable and functional ecosystem.
