The neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) has been thought to be involved in the development of some types of cancer. Yet, the de novo synthesis of GABA and how it functions in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remain unclear. Here, we report that SLC6A12 acts as a transporter of GABA, and that aldehyde dehydrogenase 9 family member A1 (ALDH9A1), not glutamate decarboxylase 1 (GAD1), generates GABA in human HCC.

Enzyme-powered nanomotors have attracted significant attention in materials science and biomedicine for their biocompatibility, versatility, and the use of biofuels in biological environments. Here, we employ a hybrid mesoscale method combining molecular dynamics and multi-particle collision dynamics (MD-MPC) to study the dynamics of nanomotors powered by enzyme reactions. Two cascade enzymes are constructed to be layered on the same surface of a Janus colloid, providing a confined space that greatly enhances reaction efficiency.

Background: The "Social Motivation" hypothesis posits that social deficits in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) arise from altered reward perception. However, few studies have examined neural and behavioral responses to social reward-related cues in low functioning ASD children with limited cognitive or language abilities.
