Article Synopsis
  • - Viremic non-progressors (VNPs) are a rare group of HIV-1 individuals who maintain normal CD4 T cell counts despite high viral loads, resembling natural hosts of simian immunodeficiency virus, but the reasons for this are not fully understood.
  • - A study using single-cell and multiomics methods examined 16 VNPs and 29 HIV+ progressors, revealing genetic factors like CCR5Δ32 heterozygosity and lower CCR5 expression, alongside reduced intestinal disruption and immune responses in VNPs.
  • - The research highlights various traits contributing to the immune stability in VNPs, indicating important insights for potential HIV treatment strategies in the future.

"Human dirofilariasis, caused by filarial worms of the genus , is considered an emerging zoonotic filarial infection transmitted to humans by zoo-anthropophilic blood-sucking insects. The most common species causing human infections include and . In this case report, we present the case of a 60-year-old male patient who reported the presence of an intraoral swelling in the right maxillary vestibular region.

Intravenously administered perfluorocarbon nanoemulsion (PFC) are taken up by phagocytic immune cells which enables the non-invasive visualization of inflammatory hot spots by combined 1H/19F magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, little is known about the influence of inflammatory stimuli on cellular uptake and biodistribution of PFCs. Here, we systematically investigated the impact of inflammation induced by subcutaneous implantation of Matrigel/lipopolysaccharide (Matrigel/LPS) or myocardial infarction (MI; 50 minutes ischemia reperfusion) on PFC-uptake and biodistribution in C57BL/6J mice.

Government policies have stimulated the Western Australian (WA) mining industry to position itself as a significant global supplier of critical minerals, including lithium and rare earths. In WA the lithology that supports these minerals is often associated with elevated concentrations of naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORMs) and the increase in the number of mining operations pursuing the minerals has witnessed a commensurate increase in the number of workers potentially exposed to the radiation emitted from the NORMs. The regulatory framework for radiation protection in WA mining operations underwent significant change with the implementation of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 which both came into effect on the 31 of March 2022.

Hyperviscosity syndrome can present with haematological, neurological or cardiovascular manifestations. The common differential diagnoses for severe headache and altered sensorium in a patient with Eisenmenger syndrome include brain abscess, meningitis, cortical venous thrombosis and subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH). We report a patient with Eisenmenger syndrome with hyperviscosity, presenting as pseudo-SAH, which was successfully treated with phlebotomy.
