Background: Ageing of Czech population and the increase of numbers of elderly people gives new tasks to whole medicine and surgery too.
Method And Results: Presented paper shows some aspects of occurrence, diagnostics and treatment of acute abdomen diseases--inflammatory and intestinal obstruction--in patients older than 60 years. It compares the occurrence and treatment results at an identical surgical department 30 and 60 years ago and nowadays.
The subsets of acute intestinal ischaemia include mesenterica arterial occlusion, venous thrombosis and non-occlusive mesenteric ischaemia. Advances in pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment, prognostic problems are associated still in mortality rates of more than 60%. Early diagnosis is the first in possibility for better prognosis.

Histological examination confirmed the metastasis of thyroid gland papillocarcinoma. Total thyroidectomy was performed and the same type of cancer in both lobes was confirmed.
