ADHD is a prevalent childhood behavioral problem. Early ADHD identification is essential towards addressing the disorder and minimizing its negative impact on school, career, relationships, as well as general well-being. The present ADHD diagnosis relies primarily on an emotional assessment which can be readily influenced by clinical expertise and lacks a basis of objective markers.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is one of the risk factors for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, the mechanism underlying the atrial structural and electro-anatomical remodeling by OSA has not yet been clearly elucidated.

Methods: This study was conducted in 83 patients who had undergone catheter ablation for AF (49 with OSA and 34 Controls without OSA).

We propose a fast quality of transmission (QoT) estimation method based on cascaded artificial neural networks (ANNs) for intensity modulation-direct detection (IMDD) systems. The proposed method can calculate the bit error rate of three-span 36 km transmission within 0.7 seconds while taking account of the deterministic waveform distortion caused by the chromatic dispersion and self-phase modulation (SPM).

Article Synopsis
  • The study found that 6.6% of patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) also had atrial fibrillation (AF), which is significantly higher than in those without AF.
  • Patients with both OSA and AF tended to be older, predominantly male, and had more health issues including alcohol consumption and chronic kidney disease.
  • Key factors linked to AF in OSA patients included older age, alcohol use, undernutrition, and poorer sleep quality, particularly reduced slow-wave sleep.

This paper investigates an auxiliary management and control channel (AMCC) signal extraction method using digital signal processing (DSP) blocks with 3-step moving averaging that allows a single coherent receiver to receive main signal and AMCC signal simultaneously. Receiver sensitivity characteristics versus the modulation index (MI) and average number of the proposed DSP blocks are elucidated. Based on the results, we discuss a policy for designing the parameters.
